postnatal + postpartum support

Hello 4th trimester! This period of adjustment into parenthood looks different for everyone. My support will be tailored to the mother’s specific needs and wants.

I usually start by processing the birth experience. Providing a listening ear as the mother processes her birth story, helping her work through any emotional highs and lows she may feel after the experience. Reminding mother to take time for self-care (I know easier said than done) but that is what I am there for! I will offer ideas on how to do so even with a newborn.

The support I offer ranges from emotional, physical, informational, partner and family, household, to advocacy. Here are some support highlights:

-Emotional: offering reassurance as mother navigates the emotional and physical changes of early motherhood, including mood swings, baby blues, or postpartum anxiety. Encouraging and validating the mother’s instincts as she learns to care for her newborn, reminding her she’s doing any amazing job, even when challenges arise.

-Physical Support: Guidance on how to care for their healing body, such as managing bleeding, perineal care, and tips on cesarean care if applicable. Breastfeeding support, such as positions, latching techniques, and troubleshooting common issues. As well as, providing non-judgmental support with formula feeding.

-Informational Support: Newborn care guidance, giving practical tips on baby basics (diapering, swaddling, soothing techniques, and sleep patterns). Education on postpartum, and resource referrals to connect you with professionals if needed for lactation consultants, pelvic floor therapists, and mental health counselors.

And more!

We will have on-going check ins to make sure I am there to offer gentle support as your family transitions into life with a newborn, ensuring that they feel cared for, heard, and empowered!
